Meet Sergey Onik, United States National Dance Champion, choreographer, and instructor. Get to know him as personal dance instructor to actress Kirstie Alley and your Official Dance Director for 100 Days of Dance!
Sergey was born April 13, 1988 in Kharkov, Ukraine and relocated to New York, NY at the age of 3. At 12 years old, he started dancing under Maksim Chmerkovskiy, Ukrainian Latin Ballroom Champion and professional dancer on ABC’s Dancing with the Stars (Kirstie Alley’s partner DWTS Season 12). Technically trained in Ballroom, Latin, Ballet, and Hip Hop, Sergey represented the US at the World Games 2009 in Taiwan (placed 8th).
Sergey’s professional work spans the globe. He has performed in the New Years Show at the Wynn Hotel Las Vegas, the Grand Opening Show of the Wynn Hotel Macau, China, and on ABC’s Dancing with the Stars (Seasons 2 & 3). He was previously an assistant choreographer for Wynn Las Vegas’ “Le Reve” Show. As a dance instructor and choreographer for Dance with Me Studios in New York, he choreographed “All the Right Moves,” a Dance with Me Invitational event held at New York City’s Hammerstein Ballroom, May 2011.
Asked about his love for dance, Sergey admits: “I started dancing to impress the ladies, then fell in love with dance itself. It saved my life, and it’s the best, most exciting and healthy way to spend your day.”
